Everything follow the same format (60% cat work 40% exam), although the focus is different for every specialism. We have a specialist teacher who delivers each of the focus areas.
Design and technology: resistant materials
You will deal with the materials of wood, metal and plastic, and the processes that are used to work with these materials. You create a main product during the ordered order task. The projects previously performed include memory, lighting and children's toys. This course follows the Edexcel Syllabus.
Design and technology: food
You will study how different foods can be used and can be made in food products, as new food products are designed and developed by the food industry. As part of food technology is expected to bring ingredients to school for practical education. The costs for this are your responsibility. You will create prototypes and install during the focused practical task in the year 11. This course follows the WJEC syllabus.
Design and technology: graphics products
They are dealing with the promotion of a "suite of products". These will promote or promote the product. They are not with creating the product, only the material that promotes or advertises. How is the course evaluated?
Unit 1: written paper 2 hours (40%)
Candidates must sit a study of two hours (divided into two sections), set and marked by the WJEC. Specific papers are set for each focus area.
The papers for all focus areas follow a similar structure. Section 1 is answered in 60 minutes and consists of four questions. These questions are set to be accessible to candidates from all focus areas and relate to product analysis, higher-level principles, designers and practitioners and "design process". The quality of the written notification is integrated into question 3 and requires paragraphs or reactions in essay style. Section 2 consists of four questions: These are focus area specifications and takes it that it takes 60 minutes to answer.
